Who are these people you ask?
They are all Breastfeeding Babies!
I was on my way to work yesterday and as usual the Dude ALWAYS listens to talk radio in the morning. I rarely if ever understand what is going on with their in depth conversations at that time in the morning. This morning however was an exception to the rule.
The Berjuan Company has made a doll that they say encourages a young child to understand the importance of breastfeeding. They point out that every other doll currently on the market comes with a bottle and with this they feel the wrong message is being sent to the child. Currently this doll has only been available in a select few countries and through online purchase. However it may be coming to US store shelves sooner than you think and for only $99 you could own your very own Breast Milk Baby!
Personally I find it a little disturbing. We all know the age old debate to breastfeed or not and I feel that the education is out there. Unless you are a contestant on Teen Mom you do everything in your power to breastfeed because you know in the back of your mind that it is best for the baby.
If this is a teaching doll then why is it not anatomically correct? Last time I checked I didn’t have flowers down there, well unless you are wearing some sort of pasties! In fact I am pretty sure I remember trying to “breastfeed” my dolls as a child. Little girls know – they see it and than copy it bottle or not.
What do you think bloggies? Has this idea been taken too far? Is this something you would buy for your little girl or boy? I wanna know!
Love to you...

This is just weird...
I've seen and heard about this doll often recently. I admit at first I thought it was a little odd but now (like most things over time) it doesn't disturb me.
Like you said, if a child is exposed to breastfeeding, she will "breastfeed" her dolls even if she doesn't have this special top and the doll doesn't make the noises...it's called PRETEND PLAY!! This toy is just a way to rip people off like most "electronic" dolls...
I also wonder if parents are that uncomfortable with their daughter pretending to BF then they probably didn't BF that baby...maybe I'm wrong though. I love BF my daughter and I don't know that I'll ever be so lucky to have a second child for her to watch me nurse so I don't know if she'll ever pretend to do it with her dolls, but if she sees other women do it in public I will tell her that I did the same to her and that it is natural and good for babies.
Good point Jenny!
I'm not a big fan of any dolls/toys that have so much purpose! What happened to imagination? I'm not sure what toys I'll purchase for my future children but I don't think I'd purchase this one just because wearing a flower tipped tank top gives the wrong message too!
I read this post while at work and had coworkers from all around my office gathering around my computer to see what my "Oh My God!" was about. I was not the only one who was horrified and amused at the same time. I remember putting my baby dolls under my shirt to "breastfeed" them when my mother had my little sister, but no one coached me to do that, there was no creepy suckling, and there were no flowers marking the spot(s). I'll definitely be skipping this purchase for my child. Thanks for the laugh!
WOW! This is hysterical! As a kid I was never taught about breast-feeding, so I don't remember ever pretending to breast-feed. I, however, would not object to my kids knowing about breast-feeding. Still, I don't think I'd need to buy a special doll just for that....that's just silly.
holymoly that just seems so random. we are super pro-breasfeeding here in nz, sometimes to an extreme that i feel sorry for moms who struggle and feel judged for not being able to... but really, this doll seems a bit out there haha!
Um. Wow.
No, that is not something I would buy for my child. That is just awkward, and inappropriate for a child. At least in my opinion it is. I don't think I would like seeing a child nursing her doll in a store or restaurant. That's just weird.
Some people are such zellots.
UM W-T-F?????
Who in the world would buy that for their child? Seriously could you imagine your girls breastfeeding in public???? wow.
